This time last year I would have been going through my day timer from start to finish, identifying red letter days and hoping that they fell conveniently on days off, or depending on the event, just before or after a day that I wasn't working.
Christmas on a Monday? Perfect -- particularly if I had the previous Friday off. Saturday Christmas? Not so good, but at least I had the whole year to get used to it.
As for birthdays, Saturdays were best. The very worst were Thursdays, my night to work. (It never occurred to me to take a holiday on my birthday.)
This year, a Monday birthday present no challenges, except that it is a birthday. So I might as well celebrate -- because I can!
